FREE2BU

FRee2bu programs

​Free2BU - an eight week program for youth that focuses on promoting healthy living and allows participants to explore, develop, and discover their strengths. Free2BU encourages participants to celebrate their differences and to connect with their commonalities. This program includes activities that are experiential, fun, and interactive. A discussion component is included to give participants an opportunity to connect on a personal level and to discuss issues that are important to them. Participants will explore and discuss specific topics in a safe, confidential, and encouraging environment.  

Free2BFamiles - a six to eight week interactive program for parents and their child/children that has a focus on promoting healthy families. This program was developed in collaboration with CaperBase, Whitney Pier Memorial Middle School Guidance, and SchoolsPlus. The parents/guardians will enjoy an information session while the youth cook, and will come together for a family meal afterwards. 

This program aims to help youth find strengths to increase self-esteem, experience positive communication, and to have fun. Youth will learn new skills and find new strengths as they prepare and cook healthy, budget-friendly meals with chefs from local restaurants. Each youth will gain valuable knowledge about healthy food choices, nutrition, kitchen safety, food budgeting, and cooking.
 
Parents/guardians will have the opportunity to learn about self-care, stress management, and community resources. They will also have the opportunity to identify topics that are of interest to them, which may be covered in later sessions.

Finding Balance - an 8 week interactive program for youth that focuses on promoting a healthy lifestyle. This program allows participants to develop and discover their strengths and overcome barriers. Participants will have an opportunity to experience and practice specific coping strategies/skills including: time management, inter-personal communication, empathy, etc. Finding Balance will explore and discuss specific topics in a safe, confidential, and encouraging environment.
